VISIONOVA

VISIONOVA

UNCOVER OUR STORY.

Visionova was born from a belief that cinema is more than entertainment, it is a language of connection, imagination, and change. Our festival was founded to give voice to a generation of filmmakers who dare to see differently, who capture the complexity of the world through bold and original perspectives.

Each of our four annual editions explores a distinct theme, exploring the evolution of global storytelling. From intimate human portraits to experimental forms and boundary-breaking visuals, Visionova is a platform where creativity thrives and conversations begin.

Rooted in Rome’s timeless spirit yet reaching audiences worldwide, we celebrate films that challenge conventions, spark dialogue, and embody a new perspective, an ethos of authenticity, rebellion, and renewal.

Have your film played in the heart of human history.

This city, with its layers of history, revolution, and reinvention, is more than just a backdrop. It’s a living symbol of cultural exchange, artistic legacy, and the power of ideas to endure. To screen your film here is to add your voice to a place that has witnessed centuries of storytelling — from ancient myths to modern cinema.

Our venue sits just minutes from world-renowned landmarks, where past and present collide in unexpected, electric ways. For filmmakers, this isn’t just a screening — it’s a moment. A chance to premiere your work in one of the world’s most iconic cultural capitals, surrounded by history and buzzing with creative energy.

Rome grounds us, inspires us, and reminds us why stories matter.

Upcoming EDITIONS

  • Journeys aren’t only about distance — they’re about change. A journey can be a road crossed, a border passed, a sea survived, or a single step taken inside a life that can’t go back to what it was. Sometimes the movement is outward; sometimes it’s entirely internal. Either way, something shifts.

We invite filmmakers to tell stories of becoming through motion: departures and homecomings, escape and return, discovery and loss, reinvention and endurance. Journeys taken by choice or by force. Journeys that move across landscapes, generations, cultures, relationships, identities — or through memory, grief, love, or faith.

We welcome works of any genre or form — fiction, documentary, animation, and experimental — that turn movement into meaning, and let the journey be more than scenery: the engine of transformation for characters, communities, and viewers.

  • Roots and nostalgia aren’t just about the past — they’re about what stays with us. The places that shaped us, the people we carry, the languages, rituals, smells, songs, and small details that can bring an entire world rushing back in a second. Sometimes nostalgia is warm and grounding; sometimes it aches, reminding us of what’s changed, what’s gone, or what we can’t return to.

We invite filmmakers to tell stories that trace where we come from — and what that origin means now. Homecomings and departures. Family histories and inherited memories. Childhood landscapes, lost friendships, old rooms, old versions of ourselves. The roots we protect, the roots we escape, the roots we rebuild.

We welcome works of any genre or form — fiction, documentary, animation, and experimental — that transform memory into cinema, and explore how the past continues to shape who we are, who we miss, and who we’re becoming.

  • Metamorphosis isn’t just change — it’s transformation. The kind that rewrites you: body, identity, relationships, or the way you see the world. Sometimes it arrives slowly, almost invisibly. Sometimes it hits like a storm. Either way, once it begins, there’s no clean return to who you were.

We invite filmmakers to tell stories of becoming: coming-of-age and breaking points, healing and unraveling, obsession and awakening, reinvention and revolt. Transformations chosen or imposed — through love, loss, power, illness, technology, belief, art, or survival. Metamorphosis that is literal or symbolic, intimate or epic, beautiful or unsettling.

We welcome works of any genre or form — fiction, documentary, animation, and experimental — that treat transformation as the heartbeat of the film, and let audiences witness the fragile, exhilarating moment when a life turns into something else.

  • New horizons aren’t just places — they’re possibilities. The moment the familiar ends and something unknown begins: a new city, a new life, a new love, a new language, a new body of work. Sometimes it’s an escape. Sometimes it’s an arrival. Often it’s both at once.

We invite filmmakers to tell stories of stepping into the next: fresh starts and second chances, leaps of faith and calculated risks, migrations and reinventions, ambition and uncertainty. Horizons found through travel, technology, community, politics, nature — or through the quiet decision to live differently.

We welcome works of any genre or form — fiction, documentary, animation, and experimental — that capture what it means to face the unfamiliar, and to move toward a future that hasn’t been written yet.

How Visionova Works

VisioNova Film Festival is comprised of four editions spread across the four seasons of the year.

Each edition celebrates excellence with four awards:

At year’s end, all winners from the four editions face off for the ultimate honour: the 2026 Visionova Grand Award. Our blog is a space for reflection, debate, and discovery, a living part of Visionova Film Festival where ideas meet and voices matter. We explore cinema as a mirror of society and a tool for change, and we welcome writing that dives into the challenges, hopes, and contradictions we all face.

This is not just for filmmakers or critics. It is for anyone who cares about stories, how they are told, who tells them, and what they mean. From essays on specific cinemas or filmmakers to broader thoughts on culture, identity, and community, we invite you to share your perspective.

We encourage open conversation: agree, disagree, respond, provoke, and write. Whether you are a participant in the festival or part of our wider community, you are welcome here. Selected pieces will be featured on our Substack, where your words can reach readers around the world.
